As of the current date, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized 99,380 entities as startups.
It is evident that more than 43% of these startups belong to the IT/ITES sector. However, it is interesting to note that approximately 40% of the recognized startups come from the manufacturing and services sectors combined.
Among the states in India, Maharashtra currently leads with the highest number of recognized startups, totaling 18,802. Karnataka, with its prominent startup ecosystem in Bangalore, follows closely behind with 12,187 startups. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh has registered 9,782 startups as of today.
Although there has been a slight decrease in the number of startup registrations on a year-on-year basis (excluding any impact from the Covid pandemic), it is noteworthy that approximately 15,000 startups are still being registered in India daily.
If you believe that your company qualifies as a startup, it is advisable to register today in order to potentially avail the benefits and support provided to recognized startups.
